Comox Strathcona Regional District
The Comox Strathcona Regional District (CSRD) is a partnership of nine electoral areas and eight municipalities providing nearly 102,000 residents with over 145 services-from parks to full-service sports facilities to regional solid waste systems. The geography of the CSRD ranges from rural agricultural to vibrant urban and from meandering coastline to rugged mountains and valleys. The CSRD covers an area of approximately 20,292 square kilometers (7,835 square miles) and serves a population of 101,595 according to the 2006 Census. Our borders extend from Cook Creek in the south to Gold River, Sayward, Tahsis, Zeballos and Kyuquot in the north and west, and then east to take in Denman, Hornby, Cortes, Quadra and the Discovery Islands, and a portion of the mainland north of Powell River. The CSRD was established in August of 1965, making it the oldest regional district in BC. The boundaries of the Comox Strathcona Regional Hospital District (CSRHD) are the same as the regional district and have the same board of directors as the regional district.
